Recap: Cedar Valley Aviators vs. Cesar Chavez Champions
After a string of four wins, the Cedar Valley Aviators's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Cesar Chavez by a score of 63-60. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Several Aviators players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brennan Olsen, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Owen Bawden, who scored ten points along with four blocks.
Even though they lost, Cedar Valley were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Cesar Chavez's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Royal Haley, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and five blocks. The matchup was Haley's third in a row with at least ten points. Danta Stallworth was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Cedar Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Cesar Chavez, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 12-2.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cedar Valley and Springville will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Cesar Chavez, they will be playing at home against Maricopa at 7:00 p.m. on January 8th.
