Baseball Recap: Oberlin Find Success

Oberlin hadn't done well against Clearview recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Phoenix came out on top against the Clippers by a score of 5-1. This was a revenge game for the Phoenix: when they faced off against the Clippers back in April, they had to take a 13-6 loss.

Drew Walter made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ehab Abuhamda, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Julian Anderson was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Oberlin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clearview only posted a batting average of .231.

The victory made it two in a row for Oberlin and bumps their season record up to 4-11. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Clearview, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-14 record this season.

Oberlin will face off against Keystone at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Phoenix's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Clearview, they will venture away from home to square off against Firelands at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
