Softball Game Preview: Athens Golden Eagles vs. Muscle Shoals Trojans

The Athens Golden Eagles will square off against the Muscle Shoals Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Athens' last matchup with Scottsboro could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Friday. The Golden Eagles came up short against the Wildcats, falling 13-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Golden Eagles have suffered since March 1st.

Jaicey Harty made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Lowery, who scored a run and stole two bases.

Meanwhile, Muscle Shoals posted their closest win since May 6, 2024 on Saturday. They skirted past Russellville 6-4. The victory continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Golden Tigers: they've now won three in a row.

Athens has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-10 record this season. As for Muscle Shoals, their win bumped their record up to 8-10.

Everything went Athens' way against Muscle Shoals in their previous meeting back in March, as Athens made off with a 21-8 victory. Will the Golden Eagles repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
