East Webster posted their closest victory since February 24th on Tuesday. They skirted past the South Pontotoc Cougars 5-4. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 5-3 back in February.
Jasie Rae Flora was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, Alyssa McCoy was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Faith Edwards was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
East Webster was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .480. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Pontotoc only posted a batting average of .200.
The win made it two in a row for East Webster and bumps their season record up to 13-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for South Pontotoc, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Webster will head out to face off against Aberdeen at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Aberdeen has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.71 runs per game on average), something East Webster will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for South Pontotoc, a feisty cat fight will be fought as South Pontotoc Cougars face off against Ethel Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
