Baseball Game Preview: Southold Settlers vs. Smithtown Christian Knights

For the second straight game, Southold will face off against Smithtown Christian. The Settlers will hit the road for the first time this season to face off against the Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Southold is leaving town to face Smithtown Christian after disappointing their home crowd in their season opener. The Settlers came up short against the Knights on Monday, falling 13-2. Surprisingly, this marked the Settlers' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

For Smithtown Christian's part, Quincy Gibbs made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Gibbs has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Smithtown Christian let Luke Ruggiero and Isaiah Gibbs run wild. Ruggiero got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs, while Gibbs went 2-for-5 with four stolen bases and two runs. Those three runs gave Ruggiero a new career-high. Luca Pascucci also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Smithtown Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Southold suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Smithtown Christian in their previous meeting on Monday. Can the Settlers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
