The Valley Falls Dragons will take on the Jackson Heights Cobras in a tournament on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Valley Falls' pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Atchison County with a sharp 17-0 win. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Abby Wilson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Wilson was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

The home team had won the previous two meetings between Jackson Heights and Horton, and Jackson Heights kept the tradition alive. The Cobras were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over the Chargers on Friday. The Cobras haven't had any issues with the Chargers recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Like Valley Falls, Jackson Heights also got a great game from a two-way player: Layla Cochran. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. With that strong performance, Cochran is now averaging an impressive 5.5 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.
In other batting news, Taylor Bosley was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. She also hit two triples, marking her first of the season. Jennifer Mellies was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and three RBI.
Valley Falls pushed their record up to 7-4 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.2 runs over those games. As for Jackson Heights, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
Valley Falls took their victory against Jackson Heights when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 17-2 score. Do the Dragons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cobras turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
