Baseball Game Preview: Cowan Blackhawks vs. Seton Catholic Cardinals

The Cowan Blackhawks will square off against the Seton Catholic Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Neither Cowan nor Seton Catholic posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

On Saturday, Cowan came up short against Northeastern and fell 6-1. The Blackhawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Cowan saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaydon Auker, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Auker has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Seton Catholic's offense. They lost 10-0 to Cambridge City Lincoln on Wednesday. The Cardinals have struggled against the Golden Eagles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Cowan's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Seton Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cowan has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Seton Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Everything went Cowan's way against Seton Catholic when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Cowan made off with a 23-3 victory. Do the Blackhawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
