Preview: Palma Chieftains vs. Everett Alvarez Eagles
Palma has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge The Everett Alvarez Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Last Friday, Palma was the victim of a tough 34-14 loss at the hands of Salinas. Palma was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-7.
Palma's defeat came about despite a quality game from Drew Molinari, who rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries.
Meanwhile, Everett Alvarez's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They suffered a rough 50-24 loss at the hands of Monterey. While losing is never fun, Everett Alvarez can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 528th, while Monterey is ranked 222nd).
Palma's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 5-4. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 9.0 points per game. As for Everett Alvarez, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
Everything came up roses for Palma against Everett Alvarez in their previous matchup back in September of 2022 as the team secured a 27-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Palma since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
