Recap: Desert Ridge Jaguars vs. Highland Hawks

If the Desert Ridge Jaguars were feeling good off their 62-28 takedown of the Queen Creek Bulldogs last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The matchup between Desert Ridge and Highland wasn't particularly close, with Desert Ridge falling 70-55. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

Several Jaguars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Saige Miller, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Miller is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Mask, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Madilyn Gewirtz continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Highland, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 17 rebounds. Emilee Searle was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.

Desert Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Highland, their win bumped their record up to 11-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Desert Ridge will face off against Corona del Sol at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for Corona del Sol: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Desert Ridge has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road. As for Highland, they will face off against Gilbert at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Gilbert knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matches -- so hopefully Highland likes a good challenge.
