Baseball Game Preview: Mercyhurst Prep Lakers vs. Greenville Trojans

The Mercyhurst Prep Lakers will challenge the Greenville Trojans on Monday. Mercyhurst Prep is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last ten games.

Mercyhurst Prep is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Lakeview a 1-0 shutout. Those one runs were actually the fewest the Lakers have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Not much got past Hunter Krahe, who gave up just a hit to keep Lakeview off the board. Krahe has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mercyhurst Prep saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Stoker, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Meanwhile, Greenville waltzed into their contest on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Panthers.

The team relied heavily on Brandon Stubert, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Justin Schell was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Mercyhurst Prep's record is now 21-1. As for Greenville, their record now sits at 16-2.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mercyhurst Prep has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Greenville struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Mercyhurst Prep skirted past Greenville 4-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2021. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lakers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
