Softball Recap: Williams Takes a Loss

Williams extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 4-15 in the process. They lost 16-0 to the Eastern Alamance Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-0 back in March.

As for Eastern Alamance, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games.

For Eastern Alamance's part, Carley Boggs was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave Boggs a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Eastern Alamance got a massive performance out of Delani Straughan, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those two runs gave Straughan a new career-high. Kayden Manning was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Williams wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 19-1 loss against Cedar Ridge on the 28th. As for Eastern Alamance, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-1 victory against Western Alamance on the 29th.
