Football Recap: Swain County Find Success

Swain County lost to Mountain Heritage back in September of 2021, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Maroon Devils came out on top in a nail-biter against the Cougars, sneaking past 16-14.

Zeke Glaspie had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 217 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 10.9 yards per carry. Those 217 rushing yards gave him a new career-high.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Swain County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 231 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 195 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Mountain Heritage lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ervine Rodriguez, who rushed for 101 yards and one touchdown.

The victory got Swain County back to even at 2-2. As for Mountain Heritage, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Swain County has already played their next match, a 55-0 win against Andrews on the 19th. As for Mountain Heritage, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Madison at 7:30 p.m. on the 26th. The game will give the Cougars their first taste of in-conference action this season.
