Basketball Recap: Hayden Sharps' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Montpelier over Pettisville

Montpelier has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 62-51 to the Pettisville Blackbirds on Friday. The Locomotives were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blackbirds apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Montpelier's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hayden Sharps, who went 5 of 12 to rack up 11 points and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenneth Smeltzer, who went 6 for 9 en route to 13 points.

Montpelier's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 12-4. As for Pettisville, they pushed their record up to 13-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Montpelier wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 76-45 victory against Antwerp on the 1st. As for Pettisville, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 36-26 win against Ayersville on the 1st.
