Basketball Recap: Westfield School Gets Big Victory over Higher-Ranked Gatewood

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Southland Academy, Westfield School was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They came out on top against the Gatewood Gators by a score of 64-57. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Hornets' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 285th, while the Gators are ranked 114th).

Gatewood's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Matt Allen, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten boards. Allen's evening made it 34 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Landon Moreno was another key player, putting up ten points and four steals.

The win got Westfield School back to even at 4-4. As for Gatewood, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-1.

Westfield School wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, an 80-61 victory against Robert Toombs Christian Academy on the 20th. As for Gatewood, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 78-34 win against Georgia Military College on the 21st.
