Basketball Game Preview: Los Lunas Tigers vs. Piedra Vista Panthers

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Los Lunas Tigers face off against the Piedra Vista Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday... Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Thursday, Los Lunas might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Sandia an easy 77-57 win. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while the Matadors are ranked fourth).

Meanwhile, Piedra Vista was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 48-45 heartbreaker at the hands of Miyamura. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Panthers have suffered since December 29, 2023.

Los Lunas has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for Piedra Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.

Everything went Los Lunas' way against Piedra Vista when the teams last played back in November of 2023, as Los Lunas made off with a 55-29 victory. Will Los Lunas repeat their success, or does Piedra Vista have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
