La Cueva is on a nine-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Eldorado is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Bears will host the Golden Eagles at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Saturday, La Cueva made easy work of Manzano and carried off a 16-5 victory. That's two games straight that the Bears have won by exactly 11 runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Eldorado). They blew past Capital 21-2 on Monday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Ethan Marquez made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season.
In other pitching news, Jace Sanchez-Reynolds looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Eldorado let John Wofford and Cirillio Martinez run wild. Wofford scored three runs while going 3-for-5, while Martinez scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Those three runs gave Wofford a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Sullivan Wilson, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Eldorado kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
La Cueva is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Eldorado, their win bumped their record up to 12-5.
La Cueva took their victory against Eldorado in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 6-0 score. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Golden Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
