Softball Game Preview: Lone Star Rangers vs. Highland Park Scots

The Lone Star Rangers will head out to face off against the Highland Park Scots at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Lone Star is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.

Lone Star's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They blew past Newman Smith 25-0. The Rangers have beaten the Trojans the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Trojans has come to flipping the script.

Lairyn Bell made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Lone Star got a massive performance out of Alyson Smith, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Serenity Smith was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI.

Lone Star kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, Highland Park lost 18-1 to Creekview on Saturday. The loss continues a trend for the Scots in their meetings with the Mustangs: they've now lost four in a row.

Lone Star pushed their record up to 12-7-1 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Highland Park, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-12.

Lone Star took their win against Highland Park in their previous matchup on March 7th by a conclusive 7-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lone Star since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
