Softball Recap: Cle Elum-Roslyn Drops Season-High Score on White Swan

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cle Elum-Roslyn). They blew past the White Swan Cougars 28-3 on Saturday. The Warriors have beaten the Cougars the last nine times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Cougars has come to flipping the script.

Rhiley Mortensen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs, two triples, and two stolen bases.

In other batting news, Cle Elum-Roslyn let Caroline Smith and McKenna Case run wild. Smith went a perfect 3-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI, while Case got on base in four of her six plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Smith also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Preslee Hageman was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Cle Elum-Roslyn kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 23 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.

Cle Elum-Roslyn's win bumped their record up to 10-4. As for White Swan, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Cle Elum-Roslyn beat the Cougars by a score of 22-1 later that day.
