Baseball Recap: Doherty's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

Doherty can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They came out on top against the Southridge Skyhawks by a score of 7-4. With that victory, the Spartans brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Dominick Morelli made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Derek Graham was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Doherty's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-6 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Aharon Enriquez, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Doherty's win bumped their record up to 3-6. As for Southridge, their loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-3.

Coming up, Doherty will host Rampart at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Doherty's pitchers better be ready for this one: Rampart has averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season. As for Southridge, they will square off against Oregon City at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
