Baseball Game Preview: Palmetto Mustangs vs. Westside Rams

The Palmetto Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Westside Rams at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Palmetto turned things around against Ware Shoals on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 11-2 win.

Westside not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 3rd. They were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over Palmetto. While the Rams didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Tyler Scott made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. He has become a key player for Westside: the team is undefeated when he allows at most three hits, but 4-5 otherwise. Scott was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Phoenix Herndon, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brody Caudle, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI.

Westside lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Westside moved to 7-5 with that victory, which also ended their five-game losing streak. As for Palmetto, their record now sits at 2-10.

Palmetto might still be hurting after the 9-3 defeat they got from Westside in their previous matchup on Tuesday. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
