Basketball Game Preview: Madison Plains Golden Eagles vs. Catholic Central Irish

The Madison Plains Golden Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Catholic Central Irish at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Catholic Central took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Madison Plains, who comes in off a win.

Last Thursday, Madison Plains didn't have too much trouble with Worthington Christian as they won 41-24.

Madison Plains found their leader in freshman Anna Stroup, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. Stroup's evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Mackenzie Reeves was another key player, putting up seven points.

Madison Plains smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Catholic Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Southeastern Local, falling 50-28. While losing is never fun, the Irish can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 716th, while the Trojans are ranked 172nd).

Catholic Central's loss dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Madison Plains, their victory bumped their record up to 11-4.

Everything came up roses for Madison Plains against Catholic Central when the teams last played back in December of 2024, as the squad secured a 52-15 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Madison Plains since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
