Softball Recap: Doherty Memorial Takes a Loss

Wednesday just wasn't the day for Doherty Memorial's offense. They fell just short of the St. Paul Knights by a score of 2-0 on Wednesday. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Highlanders' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Riley Cormier spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Doherty Memorial saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isabella LLanos, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.

Doherty Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for St. Paul, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-3.

Looking ahead, Doherty Memorial will venture away from home to take on North at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for St. Paul, they will host Notre Dame Academy at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Rebels have averaged an impressive 11.2 runs per game this season.
