Basketball Recap: Valley Pirates vs. Hopi Bruins
The Valley Pirates can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent contest on Saturday. They blew past Hopi, posting a 75-42 victory on the road. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Valley considering their zero-point performance the game before.
Kaelynn Nez continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 32 points along with five rebounds and five steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Valley's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trinity Mitchell, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Valley's victory bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Hopi, they are on a eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-15.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Valley will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against the Redskins at 6:00 p.m. on January 29th. St. Johns presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Pirates in Arizona (the Redskins are ranked 31st, while the Pirates are ranked 100th). As for Hopi, they will head out on the road to square off against the Pirates at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Monday.
