Softball Recap: Stockton's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Stockton waltzed into their contest on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Pleasant Hope Pirates an 8-0 shutout. The Tigers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Pirates, too.

Ellie Pettit made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. Those 17 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

In other batting news, Stockton let Raelyn Henderson and Nataleigh Brummett run wild. Henderson got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI, while Brummett went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Henderson has been hot, having posted two or more stolen bases the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Abercrombie, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Stockton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .512 or higher in four consecutive matches.

Stockton's win bumped their record up to 14-3. As for Pleasant Hope, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-8.

Looking ahead, Stockton will head out on the road to face off against El Dorado Springs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Pleasant Hope, they will challenge Early at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
