Modesto Christian (Modesto, Calif.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 20 points, drop to two before the final whistle blew on a 30-28 victory over
Hughson (Calif.).
After trailing 20-14 at the half, the Huskies went ahead on a touchdown run by
Tanner Duron with 7:00 to go in the third. Modesto Christian grabbed hold of the lead when
Zack Megee thew a touchdown to
Jarad Mora with 4:00 remaining in the third quarter, and never relinquished it.
MC expanded its lead to seven points entering the fourth quarter. The Modesto school scored once in the quarter on a touchdown pass by Megee to Mora.
Duron made a difference for Hughson. The junior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 21 touchdowns on the season.
Megee played well for the Crusaders in the victory. The senior quarterback threw two touchdowns. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 40-21 win for Modesto Christian.
The defeat comes as a step back for Hughson, which notched a 25-6 victory over Orestimba in its previous outing.
Hughson (4-4) will play a Trans Valley game against Riverbank next week, while Modesto Christian (5-3) will take on Escalon also in a Trans Valley game.
