Softball Recap: Lafayette Makes It Seven in a Row at Home

Lafayette hadn't done well against Corinth recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Lafayette was the clear victor by a 10-3 margin over Corinth. Considering the Commodores have won 16 matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Mabry Eason made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Eason was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since March 1st.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braleigh Crowe, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. Mary Madison Kelley was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one RBI.

Lafayette always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Corinth only posted an OBP of .160.

Lafayette's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Corinth, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lafayette will welcome Pontotoc at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Corinth, they will host New Hope at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. New Hope will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Corinth surely won't give up without a fight.
