Baseball Recap: Springfield Picks Up Eighth Straight Win at Home

Springfield proved they can win big last Friday (they won by seven) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Sumner Cowboys 9-7. The win continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Cowboys: they've now won six in a row.

Brock Cothern looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Colt Lirette was incredible, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Brennan McKinney was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.

Springfield's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-7. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 8.75 hits in those games compared to only 4.14 in the others. As for Sumner, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-8.
