With a playoff win on the line, Scotland rose to the challenge on Thursday. They put the hurt on the South Johnston Trojans with a sharp 8-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Fighting Scots, who have now won 18 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Avery Stutts spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Dawson Blue was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Ratley, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Scotland's win was their 11th straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 29-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for South Johnston, their loss ended a 13-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 23-3.

Coming up, Scotland will face off against Rockingham County at 2:00 p.m. on the 31st. The Cougars will roll in looking for their 26th straight win, something the Fighting Scots surely won't give up without a fight. South Johnston does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
