Basketball Game Preview: Athens Indians vs. Burr Oak Bobcats

The Athens Indians will square off against the Burr Oak Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Last Tuesday, Athens was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 46-40 to Martin. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Burr Oak had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They skirted past Waldron 40-37. The 40-point effort marked the Bobcats' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Athens better keep an eye on Kayden Cole. He was instrumental in Burr Oak's win, putting up 11 points in addition to five assists and five steals. Cole has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Cole, who posted eight points and three steals.

Athens' defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Burr Oak, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-3.

Athens might still be hurting after the 70-46 loss they got from Burr Oak in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Athens avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
