California had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They enjoyed a cozy 72-56 win over the Whittier Christian Heralds on Monday. For the Condors, this counts as revenge for the 64-41 victory the Heralds walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2021.

California's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Augie Gomez, who posted 15 points. Another player making a difference was Jeremy Dayton, who had 17 points.

Despite the loss, Whittier Christian still got an impressive performance from Leland Carrido, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Gage Baker, who went 6-for-11 to rack up 13 points and five boards.

California has already played their next game, a 69-60 victory against Serra on the 18th. As for Whittier Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-47 loss against Pioneer on the 18th.
