Mt. Vernon has gone a perfect 5-0 against Anderson recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Mt. Vernon Marauders will challenge the Anderson Indians at 6:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Mt. Vernon is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Richmond 65-35. Given the Marauders' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while the Red Devils are ranked 195th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Luke Ertel continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 9-for-13 en route to 22 points and five boards. That makes it seven consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Mt. Vernon's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Max Vise, who posted nine points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Anderson waltzed into their contest on Saturday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They skirted past the Generals 55-52.
Anderson's win came from a few key players Mt. Vernon will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Damien King, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 21 points along with six boards and three steals. The game was his 15th in a row with at least 15 points. Javon Warfield was another key player, going 5-for-7 on his way to 15 points in addition to five assists and four steals.
Mt. Vernon has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.4 points over those games. Anderson's victory bumped their record up to 21-2.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's contest: Mt. Vernon has been dynamite from deep this season, having made 35.3% of their three-pointers per game. It's a different story for Anderson, though, as they've only made 29.4% of their three-pointers this season. Given Mt. Vernon's sizable advantage in that area, Anderson will need to find a way to close that gap.
Mt. Vernon didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Anderson when the teams last played back in December of 2024, but they still walked away with a 56-52 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was King, who had 17 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Mt. Vernon still be able to contain King? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
