Baseball Recap: Mapleton Takes a Loss

Mapleton extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 4-10 in the process. They fell 11-6 to the Crestview Cougars. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 18, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Gabe Wrobleski was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Mapleton: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 0-9 otherwise.

As for Crestview, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-10 record this season. The victory made it back-to-back wins for they.

On Crestview's side, Gavin Barker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. Barker has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Crestview got a massive performance out of Kayn Patton, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave Patton a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyson Ringler, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Looking ahead, Mapleton will challenge Ashland at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Crestview, they will square off against Lucas at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cubs have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
