Stanton and Wolfson are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2016, but likely not for long. The Blue Devils will take on the Wolfpack in a tournament on Monday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Stanton sitting on four straight wins and Wolfson on six.
On Thursday, Stanton needed a bit of extra time to put away Eagle's View. They won by a run and slipped past the Warriors 14-13.
Leah Joseph was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 21 batters over eight innings while giving up six earned (and six unearned) runs off 13 hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-6 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emmalyn Gensch, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Bailey Forrest was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Stanton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .592. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .548 or higher in four consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, while Wolfson put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Parker. The Wolfpack were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Braves. Considering the Wolfpack have won ten contests by more than nine runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Wolfson got a massive performance out of Isabel Nieves, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. Peyton Brown also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Wolfson's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Stanton, their record is now 8-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Stanton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Wolfson struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Stanton suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Wolfson when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
