Baseball Recap: Housatonic Mountaineers vs. Nonnewaug Chiefs
Housatonic had lost five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-3 to make it six. They lost 13-3 to the Nonnewaug Chiefs. The Mountaineers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Chiefs earlier this season, when they won 4-1.
As for Nonnewaug, their victory bumped their record up to 12-4. Considering they have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
For Nonnewaug's part, Brady Herman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits. Herman has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Nonnewaug got a massive performance out of Derek Chung, who went 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Chung has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Hustek, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.
Housatonic does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Nonnewaug, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 4-1 loss against Seymour on the 15th.
