Baseball Game Preview: Liberty Panthers vs. Hardin-Jefferson Hawks

Liberty is 2-8 against Hardin-Jefferson since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Panthers will face off against the Hawks at 7:00 p.m. Liberty will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

Liberty will bounce into Tuesday's matchup after beating Hargrave, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Panthers blew past the Falcons 7-1 on Friday.

Zander Davila spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Liberty saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kenan Clevenger, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Hardin-Jefferson waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They walked away with a 9-6 victory over the Longhorns.

The team relied heavily on Brady Tran, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maddox Harrod, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Liberty's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-8-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Hardin-Jefferson, their record is now 9-12-1.

Liberty skirted past Hardin-Jefferson 6-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
