2A District 8 recap October 22, 2013
Northlake Christian added to the longest winning streak in 2A District 8 this week by beating Aquinas, 14-13. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Wolverines.
Pine took down Mt. Hermon 49-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Archbishop Hannan's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Korey Zeigler threw for 73 yards and Daniel Hollander had 35 yards receiving. On the ground Zeigler chipped in 186 yards. Jason Brooks helped Archbishop Hannan's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 24 yards.
Zeigler put up the best numbers in passing as the Hawks beat Springfield.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Archbishop Hannan's Zeigler and Hollander have proven to be a lethal combination. 5-11 quarterback Zeigler has thrown for 875 yards this season, while Hollander has 25 catches for 362 yards. Derrick Dillon from the Raiders leads the league in rushing with 955 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Northlake Christian takes on second place Archbishop Hannan. Last week, Northlake Christian topped the Falcons, while pat lambert's team bested the Bulldogs.
Pine's Dillon needs only 45 yards against Springfield next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 82 carries Dillon has accumulated 955 yard this year.
There should be lots of points scored when Anthony Agresta's team and the Hawks face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Wolverines comes in having scored 226 this season, while Archbishop Hannan has scored 214. Northlake Christian scored 14 points last week as it bested Aquinas.
