Basketball Recap: Atrisco Heritage Academy Takes a Loss

Atrisco Heritage Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat. They came up short against the West Mesa Mustangs, falling 61-37. The Jaguars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Atrisco Heritage Academy still got an impressive performance from Selim Neel, who posted 14 points and six steals. Another player making a difference was Jasmin West, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, Atrisco Heritage Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Mesa only pulled down eight offensive boards.

West Mesa had a senior duo take command as Monique Sena went 7 of 12 on her way to 33 points in addition to seven assists and five steals and Alicia Charlie dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Sena has scored at least a third of West Mesa's points.

Atrisco Heritage Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-12. As for West Mesa, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season.

Atrisco Heritage Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 46-34 loss against Del Norte on the 10th. As for West Mesa, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 44-37 defeat against Highland on the 10th.
