League recap: Hirschi climbs in state rankings

3A Region I District 5 recap October 29, 2013

Hirschi scaled the state rankings by moving to 390 from 424 this week, the biggest jump in 3A Region I District 5. The Huskies climbed the ranks as a result of beating Iowa Park 49-28.

The Hawks fell to Hirschi 49-28 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Vernon's dynamic duo of David Garza and Zack Perez proved tough for Burkburnett to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Garza threw for 190 yards and 3 touchdowns and Perez had 131 yards receiving. Ben Owen helped Vernon's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 59 yards.

He went 4-9 with 0 interceptions.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Graham's Ben Davis and Bryce Reeves have proven to be a lethal combination. Davis has thrown for 2,146 yards this season, while Reeves has 43 catches for 809 yards. Cedrick Battle from Cody Slater's team leads the league in rushing with 1,188 yards.

In 70 carries Orlando Haymon has put up 999 yards this year.

One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when the Steers and the Huskies face off next week.

An important game coming up in 3A Region I District 5 this week will be when Hirschi takes on Graham. The Huskies are currently in third, while Kenny Davidson's team is in first.

There should be lots of points scored when Hirschi and the Steers face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Huskies comes in having scored 359 this season, while Graham has scored 390. Hirschi scored 49 points last week as it bested Iowa Park.

The Huskies led the league in scoring this week by notching 49 points on Scott Ponder's team. Battle ran for 153 yards in the win.
