Softball Game Preview: Vista del Lago Eagles vs. Ponderosa Bruins

The Vista del Lago Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Ponderosa Bruins at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are strolling into their matches after big wins in their previous games.

Vista del Lago is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Laguna Creek 14-4 on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Eagles considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Alayna Piexoto looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, Ella Dossey was a standout: she scored three runs while going 3-for-3. Those runs were her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jillian McGuire, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.

Meanwhile, while Ponderosa put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Rio Americano. Ponderosa was the clear victor by an 18-0 margin over Rio Americano. The Bruins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by ten runs or more this season.

Marissa Granade looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bailey Borges, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI and two doubles. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gianna Marietti, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Ponderosa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Vista del Lago has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. The win made it two in a row for Ponderosa and bumps their season record up to 5-6.

Vista del Lago beat Ponderosa 6-1 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will Vista del Lago repeat their success, or does Ponderosa has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
