Softball Recap: Mercy Mcauley Wins Going Away Against Notre Dame Academy

After losing to Notre Dame Academy the last time they met, Mercy McAuley decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Wolves were the clear victors by a 15-4 margin over the Pandas on Thursday. Mercy McAuley's win was all the more impressive since the Pandas were averaging only four runs allowed on the season.

Sophia Ward tossed a big game, striking out 12 batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mercy McAuley let Olivia Olding and Mya Rose run wild. Olding went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI, while Rose went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. That's the most hits Rose has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jayla Walker, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

The victory got Mercy McAuley back to even at 9-9. As for Notre Dame Academy, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mercy McAuley will welcome Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wolves' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season. As for Notre Dame Academy, they will face off against St. Henry at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
