Basketball Recap: Addeline Sanders' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lawrenceville over Mt. Carmel

Lawrenceville lost against Mt. Carmel back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Lawrenceville Indians came up short against the Mt. Carmel Golden Aces, falling 64-39. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 421st, while the Golden Aces are ranked 42nd).

Lawrenceville's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Addeline Sanders, who posted 13 points and seven boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Mallory Lockhart, who went 5 of 6 on her way to 13 points.

It was another big night for Maycee Randall, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 16 rebounds for Mt. Carmel. That's the most boards Randall has posted since back in January. Another player making a difference was Riley Hershey, who went 9 of 21 on her way to 21 points in addition to five assists and three steals.

Lawrenceville's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Mt. Carmel, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.

Lawrenceville will face off against Marshall at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mt. Carmel, they will welcome Edwards County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
