Basketball Game Preview: Cannon Cougars vs. Charlotte Country Day School Buccaneers

Cannon is 10-0 against Charlotte Country Day School since January of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The two teams will face off at 7:00 p.m. without much rest having both just played. Cannon knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 19 matchups -- so hopefully Charlotte Country Day School likes a good challenge.

On Thursday, Cannon made easy work of Charlotte Christian and carried off an 88-62 victory. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven games by 21 points or more this season.

Cannon can attribute much of their success to Evan Ingram, who shot 5-for-5 from long range and dropped a double-double on 31 points and 11 boards, and Sean Nix, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 13 rebounds. Nix's evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Matthew Sancho, who posted nine points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Charlotte Country Day School hadn't done well against Covenant Day recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Charlotte Country Day School took down Covenant Day 64-48. The Buccaneers pushed the score to 52-29 by the end of the third, a deficit the Lions cut but never quite recovered from.

Cannon is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 90.7 points per game. As for Charlotte Country Day School, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 13-10.

Cannon strolled past Charlotte Country Day School when the teams last played back in January of 2024 by a score of 85-68. Will Cannon repeat their success, or does Charlotte Country Day School have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
