Recap: Frederick Golden Eagles vs. Niwot Cougars

The Frederick Golden Eagles won the last time they faced the Niwot Cougars, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Frederick strolled past Niwot with points to spare, taking the game 62-45. Given Frederick's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while Niwot is ranked 246th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Frederick's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Marcus Garcia led the charge by scoring nine points along with seven steals. Another player making a difference was Zach Burton, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds.

Niwot's loss came despite strong showings from Jackson Carano and Rohit Das. Carano scored six points along with nine rebounds, while Das scored ten points along with five rebounds. Das is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight.

Frederick is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. As for Niwot, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-15.

Frederick will be playing in front of their home fans against Skyline at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Averaging 67.1 points so far this season, Frederick's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Skyline better be ready for a challenge. Niwot is on the road again on Thursday and plays Mountain View at 7:00 p.m. on February 8th. The timing is sure in Mountain View's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Niwot has been banged up by four consecutive losses on the road.
