Baseball Game Preview: Sayreville Bombers vs. Immaculata Spartans

The Sayreville Bombers will square off against the Immaculata Spartans at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sayreville hasn't scored more than two runs for five games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

Friday just wasn't the day for Sayreville's offense. They fell just short of South Plainfield by a score of 1-0 on Friday.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Immaculata). They put the hurt on Hillsborough with a sharp 15-6 victory on Thursday. With that win, the Spartans brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Jackson Trego tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Colin Kassai, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Luca Catanzarite, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Immaculata always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in five consecutive games.

Sayreville's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Immaculata, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-4.
