Basketball Recap: Mountain Ridge Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Copper Hills

On Thursday, Mountain Ridge faced Copper Hills in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Mountain Ridge Sentinels fell just short of the Copper Hills Grizzlies by a score of 42-40. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Sentinels have suffered since January 25, 2024.

Mountain Ridge's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jada Jangard, who went 5-for-9 on her way to 15 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Jangard has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. Kya Newton was another key player, putting up eight points and six assists.

Mountain Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 15-8. As for Copper Hills, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season.
