Football Recap: Colin Wiles and Daniel Nieves Secure Win for Calvary Chapel

After losing to Valley Christian the last time they met, Calvary Chapel decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Eagles enjoyed a cozy 33-19 win over the Defenders on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

A big part of Calvary Chapel's victory came down to the chemistry between Colin Wiles and his top target Daniel Nieves. Wiles threw for 231 yards and three touchdowns on only 17 passes while Nieves picked up 153 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Those 153 receiving yards gave Nieves a new career-high.

Valley Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Graham Lunzer, who rushed for 57 yards and one TD, and also threw for 156 yards and one touchdown. The Defenders also got help from Sean Bouma, who showed off his sure hands for 112 receiving yards.

Calvary Chapel's record is now 2-0. As for Valley Christian, their record now sits at 1-1.

Looking ahead, Calvary Chapel will venture away from home to take on Westminster at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Valley Christian, they will welcome Mary Star of the Sea at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
