Softball Recap: Holy Cross Victorious

Holy Cross's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Boone County Rebels 8-7.

Evie Thomas made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Paige Lachmann was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. Zakyah Ryan also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Holy Cross is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to strikeouts: they averaged an imposing 6.75 strikeouts in those games compared to only 2.75 in the others. Boone County is on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Looking ahead, Holy Cross will welcome Dayton at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Holy Cross' pitchers better be ready for this one: Dayton has averaged an impressive 10 runs per game this season. Boone County has already played their next match (against Lakewood), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
