Softball Recap: Western Makes It 17 in a Row at Home

Western put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Monday. They skirted past the Westfield Shamrocks 2-0. For the Panthers, this counts as revenge for the 5-4 victory the Shamrocks walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Not much got past Lucy George, who gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Westfield off the board. George has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brynley Erb, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last four times she's played.

Western hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive contests.

Western pushed their record up to 22-3 with the win, which was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Westfield, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season.

Western will head out to square off against Oak Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Westfield, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 7-3 loss against Avon on the 20th.
