5A District 8 recap September 24, 2013

Tarpon Springs scaled the state rankings by moving to 149 from 191 this week, the biggest jump in 5A District 8. The Spongers were able to move up by defeating Dunedin 44-7.

Tarpon Springs took down the Falcons 44-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Brandon Casler threw for 143 yards and 2 touchdowns during the win.

5-foot-10 quarterback Derrick Cook of Boca Ciega is the league leader in passing yards this season with 559. He has also thrown 3 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Montel Johnson. The Tarpon Springs star has 12 catches for 229 yards.

Ron Hawn's team led the league in scoring this week after putting up 44 points on Dunedin. Casler in the win.
