Basketball Recap: Mt. Vernon Drops Season-High Score on Twin Lakes

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mt. Vernon). Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2024 than the 68-31 stomp they got against the Twin Lakes Indians. Given the Marauders' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Indians are ranked 297th), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gabby Thomas was nothing short of spectacular: she went 6 of 11 from beyond the arc en route to 24 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in assists (four). Another player making a difference was Zoey Wood, who posted 13 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.

Mt. Vernon was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Twin Lakes' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Addyson Hines, who put up ten points.

Mt. Vernon has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.6 points per game. As for Twin Lakes, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.

Mt. Vernon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 58-37 win against Crown Point on the 28th. As for Twin Lakes, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 45-37 victory against Faith Christian on the 28th.
